Auntie Tiff Tiff, Atticus and Nana Posted by Hello

The Visit

We had a very nice time with Nana and Auntie Tiff Tiff. Today was a different story (read about it at the honeaexpress).

Company for Atticus

In about 2 more hours Atticus will be waking from his nap to find Nana and Auntie Tiff Tiff here. I would ask him if he is excited, but he answers everything with "no" and I don't want to hurt their feelings. Pictures to follow.

Scat Baby Scat

Atticus Lennon is the smiling boy
Together we listen to jazz, pure joy
I call him Smiles Davis
And you know, the crazy thing is
I think he gets the joke
And even though he’s never spoke
He can skat like Louis Armstrong
Sure as the summer day’s long
With his goos and his coos
His coo-coo cachoos
He expresses the walrus
That lives inside all us
So I smile back, what else can I do?
I’m always a sucker for a goo and a coo.

We love music, be it Coltrane or The Wiggles. This is a little poem inspired by the dancing feet and vocal stylings of Mr. Atticus Lennon.

THE THINKER

I sit in the rain
to ponder the world,
and all I get is wet.

It's been raining in Southern CA for a while now. I'm sure you all saw the news with our floods and mudslides a few weeks back. Well, it's happening again (still?). There is rain forcast as far as the forcast goes. Atticus, being from Seattle, is not bothered by this much, but man, are we getting wet. And pale.

Champ

Atticus has a new friend down in Arizona. His name is Champ and we welcome him to our planet (insert nerdy sci-fi greeting here). Hey Ma and Pa, it's going to be the longest, yet fastest, time of your life. Mom, you can finally have that glass of wine you've been craving, and Dad, you aren't drinking for two anymore, so expect less late nights and more early mornings. Congratulations from the Honea clan. We look forward to seeing you!

NEW ITEMS IN SIDEBAR

I've compiled a couple of lists in the sidebar- that being the column on the right, not an actual bar, for that you need to click on the honeaexpress link, also to the right. The lists are the television shows and authors that we enjoy together as a family. I may add some music as well, seeing as Atticus is bringing me CD's one at a time as I am writing this. CD's he has picked thus far: Nirvana- Nevermind (which he was happy to point out, has a baby on the cover), The Coral (Dreaming of You is a great song, nice choice), and Lenny Kravitz- Greatest Hits (speaks for itself). Well, the boy has taste. And stamps, he is covered in them . . . I should go.

THE BELLY HOLE

On my belly
just left of the mole,
where other kids have buttons
I only have a hole.
I tried hiding it with scotch tape,
it tore off all my skin.
I stuffed it full of cotton,
but the swabs would not stay in.
I planted a flower in it
to see if it would grow,
I filled it up with catnip,
and Fluffy's front right toe.
I asked my mom to sew on
a button from my jacket,
I tried to stitch it shut
with some string from my racket.
I plugged it with a cork
my stomach got real numb,
So I poked it with a fork
I poked it with my thumb.
Of all the things I tried,
none could be hipper,
Than my solid-steel, gold plated
new belly zipper.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope today finds you in a Meg Ryan movie- flowers, candy and Louis Armstrong in the background. I don't have a Valentine's Day poem, or even a love poem, that I consider part of the children's collection, however, I do have a poem of love that I wrote for Atticus before I knew too much about him. Heck, I didn't even know if he was a him yet!

BALLAD FOR THE WAITING
There is not enough hate in the world
To blacken the love I feel for you.
And yet you have barely started
To love, to live.
And yet you have started.
I have loved you since before then
When you were just an idea
That I wasn’t even thinking.
I loved you from the start.
And have you loved yet?
Do you love now?
Does the hate of the world make you hide,
Or does the love of my hand
Moving in slow circles
Across the soft walls of your silence
Bring you outward with anxious smiles?
I think that even now you love
And know that even now you are loved
For there is a smile upon your mother’s lips
That comes from you
And when I kiss her goodnight
And whisper softly in the darkness that we share
That my love, is your lullaby.

Smile!

SMILE Posted by Hello
Have you ever gone to a magic place
Where there’s a smile on every face?
I’ve been there a time or two
And when I’ve gone I’ve thought of you
So I brought you back this souvenir
You hook it on from ear to ear
It may feel funny for a while
But I thought that you might like to smile.

Fish Tales

I sure do like to go for a swim
I look at a fish and pretend I’m him
I dart and dive throughout the sea
while the fish must wonder-
what’s wrong with me?

DCA

Ok, we went, we had fun, it was much better than watching the Patriots again. Atticus is going through a funny phase now where he no longer embraces the idea of large mice. He is a little more cautious now, which isn't a bad thing, but it was funny when he walked right up and grabbed the nose.

Wish Upon A Rainbow

So, going to DCA/DL this morning, in about 6 hours I guess. Just got home from work and now it's time for a little shuteye. Thought I would throw this on here in honor of our trip. The inspiration, beyond the obvious, was an actual painting by an artist whose name I don't recall, that I saw at DL shortly after Jim Henson died. It was Mickey and Kermit, with their backs to the viewer, sitting on a log watching the sunset with Mickey's arm around Kermit's shoulder. I have looked for that painting ever since, both at Disney parks and online. Let me know if you ever come across it.
A mouse and a frog
Sat on a log
Remembering Walt and Jim.
How rainbows and wishing stars
Reminded them of them.
How sometimes child laughter
Makes them want to cry
And now that it is after
Their memories cannot die.
While passing is always tragic
It cannot end the magic
Made by Walt and Jim
Every time you think of them.
Remember, when you wish upon a star
It makes no difference who you are.
Every song about rainbows you ever hear
Brings your wish a little more near
For mouse, frog, whomever you be
Even the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Dudes @ DCA (Disney CA Adventure)

Posted by Hello This could be you! We are going on Sunday with his Godfather and Fairy Godmother. I know it's Super Bowl Sunday, but we're a Steeler's family and will be boycotting thank you very much. Go Eagles!

Dance Fever

Music, music, it makes me dance
Singing songs while I prance
Through the house in my underpants
Yes. I’ve got it going on.

Snowballs & Underpants

briefs? boxers? just diapers pal

Ice and cold
Between the fold
Of my cotton undies.
Throwing snow
I didn’t know
Could be so not so fundies.
When I was just the arm
Then there really was no harm
In practicing my aim.
when I heard the word yelled "fire"
I decided to retire
And the target I became.
If only I did duck
Instead of being struck
My bottom would be dry.
As it is my rear is wet
I can only imagine the playground bet
If I’m a briefs or boxers guy
.

cute though, isn't he?

see what I mean?

Words About Atticus

This site is going to be works for and inspired by my goofball kid, Atticus.
